Sailor Moon: where the air is tight by tosca1390 - I've been touching on Porn Battle lately, but I'd left it for a couple of days until anenko pointed out, oh, hey, Sailor Moon porn! And I rushed over pretty much immediately to read it, because I've enjoyed everything I've read by this author--this fic being no exception. The porn was lovely, of course, but it's also got that sharp, intense edge to it that fits with these characters, the depth of everything between them, the way the rest of the world disappears when these two are together because their attraction to each other is so immense, and it's just so... it has that feeling I get when I read about them in the manga, I'm not sure how else to phrase it. It's a beautiful fic and I loved it. *__* (Sailor Moon, NSFW.)

Sherlock: The Morning When I Woke Up Without You by cityofpaper - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] So, of course, as soon as I get done saying that sometimes I just don't want to be crushed in the soul, I go out and read a soul-crushing fic that maybe threatens just a little to bring a mist to my eyes. Shut up. But, oh, lord, John going through morning after morning brought out all these feelings I've had, especially the long, long drudge of gray days I've been through when mourning a loss like this. It's so painful because it's understated and subtle and I don't need to be told every little detail to feel everything right along with John, which made this all the more powerful a piece. Sigh, ow. (This is gen, but you could read Sherlock/John into it.)

Sherlock: Everyday's Another Chance to Bury My Regret by cityofpaper - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] Well. It was hard for me to read this fic, about John turning to drinking to deal with Sherlock's death, partly for the hurt of it and partly for the complicated issues it raises that a ~3,500 word fic can't address, but... that wasn't the point, really. It was about how awful and how difficult and how heartbreaking the three years they spend apart is, how John slowly kills himself for Sherlock, how Sherlock locks his heart away because he has a mission to do first. The emotion of this piece just hit me right in my fannish heart in all the ways it intended. (Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: Illogical, Dead and Walking by toestastegood - I feel a bit weird. My reason for diving back into fandom was to read an endless amount of post-2x03 fic, fic that deals with what's in canon, and so then I... go and read zombie apocalypse fic? What? In my defense, this fic is absolutely fantastic, though! It's told through short, sparse scenes that illustrate everything they need to, creating an atmosphere of terseness and tension that aids the situation they're in. And yet! It's not without its humorous moments (at least two of which got irl laughs out of me) and a bucketload of feels at the end. It's about 1.5k and it's just a perfect little fic to read in the afternoon. (Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: you have suffered by lazulisong - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] I really do enjoy understated, more subtle fics set post-Reichenbach, where you feel the grief in these characters, but there's no one specific place to point out where exactly it's told to you. And I especially enjoyed the way John's words to Mycroft here, who's come to give John Sherlock's will, have just a bit of an edge, that bit of sarcasm that's so very John Watson, while also being rather painful because you know it's filled with so much grief. Just. Ugh. So many feels. (This is gen but is also Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: Ginger by she_burns1 - I was actually browsing around devART when I came across this picture of Sherlock with red hair and was curious about the fic it had come from, so I clicked on the link, followed it back, and found an utterly delightful piece about Sherlock having dyed his hair and having trouble getting it undone. Which is a fun premise, but what I really loved about this fic was the way John handled it, the amazing balance between finding it hilarious and being willing to honestly help Sherlock with not that much grief. That's the thing about their relationship that I love so much, that of course they enjoy bickering sometimes, but there's also a very real, very important relationship there and this fic does a lovely job of it, with very solid writing and dialogue. My face kind of hurt from the smiling after I was finished with this fic. :D (Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: Tomorrow is a Long Time by thebombardier - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] I've spent a bit of time away from post-2x03 works in the few days between the recs I've written, but I decided to start in again this afternoon, choosing this one and, shit, I'm right back to feeling everything all over again. This fic ached while I read, all four chapters of it were painful and understated in their suffering, making it all the better, fitting with the series so very well. The first and final chapters are the worse, the beginning of the separation and then the reunion, the freshness of the wounds all over again. The writer does a gorgeous job of keeping an undercurrent to a fic, making you feel it along with the characters, rather than straight out telling the reader, so by the time the resolution came, it was nearly a physical thing for me. Though, it says it's 4/6 chapters, so there should be two more and I'm curious to see where they go. As it stands, though, the first four chapters were wonderful. (Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: Your Heart is a Weapon the Size of Your Fist by moonblossom - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] I'll admit that I thought this fic was a little too... it felt like its focus was a bit too wide for the length of the fic (that it would have been better to narrow its timeframe down a bit or to fill in the reunion details more) but that's a small quibble and I gather that this fic was about working out some writing issues from the author. Taken in that light, I can appreciate it for what it is and enjoy that the beginning especially really made me ache for John's character and I liked that John's reaction was one I hadn't yet seen much of in fandom, despite how many post-2x03 fics I've read. I'm very glad I picked this one up and would like to see more from this author. (Sherlock/John.)

Sherlock: Sentiment by bodysnatch3r - [Note: There are SPOILERS for The Reichenbach Fall in this fic and this rec.] I usually prefer a bit more of a sparse sort of writing in this fandom, so the imagery in this fic didn't hit me as hard as it might with others, but I still found myself unable to put this fic down, the surprising... not quite calm, but almost something like the eye of a storm, after Sherlock comes back and John sees him again for the first time, the way the author writes an intimacy of that moment, all of that really worked for me. The ending was really lovely as well, making my heart hurt all over again. (Sherlock/John.)

  - Okami - [ Pixiv Account ] - I was browsing the Okami tag and came across this fan comic of little baby Waka landing in Nippon and the absolutely stunning art in it and meeting Shiranui and being a tiny little thing and a;sdlkfjalskj all of these feelings just exploded everywhere in me. It's a 38-page thing, a complete doujinshi by itself pretty much, and I would have recommended the artist's account just for this one alone, because it's so perfect. But there's also a beautiful wallpaper style image and several more comics and, oh, man, do I want endless amounts of art from this one! The art is beautiful and really looks detailed and professional--the kind of artist that I would love to see have some actual manga because everything looks so pretty in it. And, okay, sure, I mostly came to this artist for Waka and Amaterasu, but the Issun-centric comic also just got me, too. (No warnings/pairings.)

  - Sherlock - [ deviantART Account ] - I probably shouldn't be justifying a rec for a seven-page comic, but--! I really love it and the art is really fantastic and it hit all the right buttons with me, so, screw you guys, I loved it. You can find the first seven pages of Winter's Solace in the artist's Sherlock gallery and I'll warn that the most recent page was back in June of 2011, but I like what's here so far. Sherlock pushing myself beyond his limitations and getting sick, so John practically has to sit on him to get him to stop for a minute and, yes. Yes, please. That is a thing I greatly enjoy. I also like the art and the level of detail in each page, I like that this could have been a tie-in comic that was put out for the show and, of course, I definitely wish the artist had done more of it. XD Also, there's Sherlock Holmes content mixed in with the Sherlock art, but they're pretty easy to tell apart. (Leaning towards Sherlock/John, I'd say.)

  - Sherlock - [ deviantART Account ] - Goddammit. I meant to clear out some of my tabs and then go read fic this afternoon. Instead, I find myself sucked back into more Sherlock fanart because this artist drew the young Holmes brothers and Sherlock and genderswapped Sherlock and Sherlock/John makeouts on the sofa. They have a very messy sort of style that may not work for everyone, but I found it interesting and I liked the sense of everything being so goddamned tall and messy on Sherlock, which worked well here. (Sherlock/John.)
