ღ - Doubling up this time in order to better catch up. Also, if you haven't seen Mad Max: Fury Road, I really really want to encourage you to do so because it was awesome and looked amazing on the big screen and it was just so fucking good omg. Also, Legend of Korra was super good for me, since I avoided most of the fandom drama and just focused on what I liked about the show itself. I'm learning how to do fandom good now! \o/
ღ - Have some bonus Mad Max: Fury Road links!

→ Yakety Max - An '80s metal version of Yakety Sax to some of the action scenes of the movie? A++++, what a good.
→ Mad Max Fury Road - Benny Hill - As much as I love the metal version, there's just always going to be something about the original that's fucking magical and this one's no exception.

AGE OF ULTRON - FIC RECS:
→ What The Post Credits Scene Should Have Been by neonheartbeat, thor & steve & tony, post-age of ultron, humor, ~1k
I WANT MY POST CREDITS SCENE. I AM A GREEDY, GREEDY WOMAN. Fuck you, Joss Whedon.
This was an absolutely perfect scene between Thor, Steve, and Tony, dicking around with Mjolnir in a way that was great for all the characters. I loved every single character voice here, each of them had at least one great moment (more like two or three) and there was such a sharpness to the writing, yet so much fun, it was absolutely exactly what I wanted. ♥
→ Foil Skin by HerenorThereNearnorFar, ultron & pietro & wanda, age of ultron, 3.1k
"They were made of the same stuff, the three of them, Ultron reminded himself."
This was an interesting look at Ultron's character and his way of seeing the world and how he also saw the twins. The fic ties together the threads of his character, the seeming genuine affection he had for them, his fascination with humanity, in a way that really worked for me.
→ Heliocentrism by tismabel, pietro & wanda, age of ultron, ~1k
Wanda knew deep down that she was simply staying still so her brother would have something to keep him grounded, an earth to his spinning satellite.
A short but lovely piece on Wanda and Pietro, as they've always been and how long they've been entwined with each other. It's just the right amount of the twins being separate and one at the same time.
→ Rough Day by ozhawk, aou cast & aos cast, age of ultron, 2.8k
"Rough… day." Clint collapsed to lie beside the body of young Maximoff. He hurt. Like hell.
A nice fix-it fic using the spaces between the frames of canon and the elements of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to fix the ending in a way that the movies absolutely leaves room for and I would be at least somewhat surprised if they didn't go down this route.
→ Run by SecondSilk, bruce/natasha, age of ultron, 1.4k
Eventually, Natasha tracks Bruce down.
I've definitely been wanting post-AOU fic that deals with Bruce and Natasha, that's about the complicated dance between them and this was lovely for that, a lot of what I want from the movie fic!
→ When It Matters by Fire_Sign, age of ultron, 1.7k
Officially, SHIELD is not looking for the Hulk. Natasha is, when she has the time, but that is strictly off the record. When Steve gives her a far too knowing look, she shrugs. He's still chasing ghosts of his own.
I've been wanting pretty much exactly this fic for Bruce and Natasha after AOU, where it's a continuation of both their journeys and issues with how they see themselves and how they interact with others, letting them in and letting themselves be there, too. It's got the deft touch needed for these two complicated people and it was so satisfying for me.
→ Beyond The Horrors by amyfortuna, bruce/natasha + previous bruce/betty, age of ultron, 1.1k
Nat and Bruce work through what's been left to them, to find a way beyond the horrors of their pasts and the horrors inside them, the missing and the broken parts.
Another beautiful fic about Bruce and Natasha and the loss of humanity, not just about the loss of having the choice to have kids, but something deeper than that. It's painful and good and perfect, a great followup to AOU that gets the issues between them.
→ Jumping the Uncanny Valley by Echo, tony & vision, age of ultron, 1.9k
Tony and Vision talk about AIs and paradoxes. And JARVIS.
A short but very interesting look at a conversation between Tony and Vision, about JARVIS and Ultron, artificial intelligence, paradoxes, and relationships, that I really liked.
→ melodies of life by ninemoons42, steve & sam & natasha & wanda & bucky, age of ultron, 1.7k
In the aftermath of Ultron's rampage, Steve -- and others -- pick up the pieces. Even if that means going away for a while.
This is a connecting piece, more aftermath of AOU and what comes next for Steve, needing to find Bucky again. I liked the interaction between him and Sam, then him and Wanda and Natasha, a lot here.
MAD MAX: FURY ROAD:
→ Aftermath by kaasknot, 4.7k
It's one thing to stand and scream "We are not things!" It is something different to sit down in the quiet that follows and find what that means.
This is the first fic I read after seeing the movie and it absolutely set the tone for what I wanted out of fandom and is the fic I would recommend if you're just getting started or if you only want to read just one fic. It's a gorgeous look at the characters and what they want to do next, the lives the wives settle into are especially fascinating and fitting and satisfying. Such a good, good fic.
→ Dust and Fire by xyphe. 2.7k
The first ones show up three months after.
I really liked this as a look at Furiosa post-movie, the people that Max sends their way and the connection between them. It's a fic balanced between these things and has a sense of growing, of people making connections, doing this together, as is at the heart of this movie.
→ The First History Man by DarkAllie, 1.4k
This being the true accounting of the rise and reign of the first Impress of the Fury Road, Furiosa the Defiant.
This was such an interesting fic! It's told as a legend of the events of the movie and afterwards, focused on Furiosa, but also everyone else. Given that the Mad Max series has leanings of being told as a story within the canon itself, this was a really cool piece to come across!
→ As Long As The Tale Is Told by DarkAllie, 2k
The WarBoys need new myths to believe in, after Immortan Joe is dead and torn apart. That's how it begins.
You can read this as a sequel to the previous fic or on its own, as it follows the Citadel post-movie, the new traditions and ways of life they create, how it's difficult there but good. The lives the characters forget together, the sense of community here, is perfectly matched to the movie as well.
→ The Things Men Do by palimpsestus, 51.5k wip
These are the things men do. They steal and they hurt and they kill the world. But they love and they cry and they kiss their babies too. These are the things men do.
This is a fascinating look at the women of the movie, especially the wives, and what they know of men, what they don't know of men. (Or at least as of the time of this rec!) It fits the movie so very well, it's lovely writing to go along with the character insight, making it really good.
LEGEND OF KORRA:
→ the next six months by swapcats, korra/asami, post-series, 4.3k
Vacations in the Spirit World don't last forever. The first six months of Korra and Asami's relationship.
Oh, this was a wonderful post-finale fic with all the super adorable awkwardness of navigating a new relationship and telling other people. It's all the right amounts of humor and joy and nervousness and how everything is finally working out, told in a really sparkling way. A perfect fic to read after the series!
→ In Quiet by exmanhater, korra/asami & pema & tenzin & katara & meelo & ikki, 5.7k
Days and nights at Air Temple Island, after the poison.
This was so good. So good. It's post-Book 3 and is a really gorgeous Asami pov that blends her elegance and humanity and thoughtfulness so wonderfully and I was just so in love with her here. The way she looks at Korra and falls in love with her, the way she's just so emotionally there in her graceful way, the structure of all the little moments, it's just such a gorgeous fic! So perfectly characterized!
→ Sleep by clarias, korra/asami & tlok cast, 14.3k
Korra deals with the aftermath of her fight with the Red Lotus, with a lot of help from her friends.
I read these three fics together (as they're part of a series) and they're a lovely post-Book 3 look at what Korra's recovery could have been like and how a relationship with Asami could have developed here. There's a very nice sense of time being much of the key here, even as it's the little steps day-by-day that are important, that the road is not smooth and there are bad days, too. It's a series that is about exploring what dealing with injuries like Korra has means, both in body and spirit, what that kind of exhaustion means when it stays for so long. There is no quick fix, but she is very much Korra through all of it and the relationship with Asami is lovely. I wish there had been more of the other people in Korra's life, but this is a great fic for the pairing!
→ not there for the noise by amillionsmiles, mako/korra + kids, 2.6k
Mako and Korra show up to support their daughter during her championship probending match, and, afterwards, celebrate with a night in town.
I'm not sure how I got sucked back into reading Makorra fic, since I thought I'd outgrown it, but, well, apparently not. And this was really lovely future fic, where their daughter has gotten into pro-bending and is doing well and their son is at that surly age, but they're still a family and all love each other and it was just a really lovely, satisfying fic.
→ Restitution by BobLoblawLawBlog, korra & tonraq & tenzin & jinora & mako & bolin & asami + some mako/korra, 24.5k
A series on Korra's recovery process told from the perspectives of many different characters.
Oh, shit, this is the fic I've been pining for, because I recently caught up with Book 3 and wanted recuperation fic that was about all of the people who cared about Korra. So much shipping fic has left me restless, because it focuses on only the romantic ship and I wanted everyone and then I found this fic and it's absolutely gorgeous! Every character feels pitch-perfect, every single one of them has been given thought and care and consideration, so you understand where each of them is coming from, each of them feels like a fully realized character.
But it's more than that, too! It's how sharp and clever everything here is, how I had no trouble seeing all of these characters in my mind's eye, how this felt entirely true to the world these characters inhabit. The interactions with Korra are all superb, especially as she deals with such a debilitating illness and how she has good days and bad days. Even when she's been knocked down, she's still so very Korra, dealing with having no energy, that she can't do things for herself, that she feels like a burden, and wants to fight, but is so very tired. Oh, this was Korra through and through, right down to how she has trouble letting others help her, yet she loves so openly and truly. The author nails both the characters and the impact of such an illness and it's an incredible fic, it's everything I wanted after Book 3.
TOTAL GOAL: 69/1,200
